Meet your coaches
STEVE MROWKA
US9 Baseball Head Coach and Manager. Coach Mrowka served as a Bench Coach in the Can Am Professional Baseball League. Prior to that, he coached at the collegiate level for 22 years, including 8 years at George Washington University. His resume includes 609 career wins as college head coach and coaching 135 student-athletes who signed to play professional baseball—including eight first-round selections and 17 major leaguers. In college, he was a two-year starter in the University of North Carolina Tar Heel's infield. After college, he played in the prestigious Cape Cod and Alaska Baseball Leagues and was a ninth-round draft choice of the Boston Red Sox in 1985. After an elbow injury during spring training ended his baseball career, he earned a M.Ed. in Sport Management from the University of Georgia.
MIKE COWELL
US9 Baseball Associate Head Coach. Coach Cowell dedicated the last 20 years of his post-professional career to teaching young players how to think and play the game of baseball the “MAC” way—an homage to the high-level coaching he received under his college coach, Pat McMahon. A native Arlingtonian, he played Varsity baseball at W-L High School where he twice made 2nd Team All-State VA (catcher) in 1990 and 1991. At Old Dominion University, he held impressive stats for caught stealing percentages and led Div. 1 in throwing out runners in 1993 and 1994, starting as catcher every game. His Pro career included playing in the AA Western Baseball League, where he had the opportunity to play under former MLB managers Jeff Burroughs and Buck Rodgers.
